Henrik Slotsaa, a vice president in the US bank's London loan agency team was stabbed to death at his home in the Elephant and Castle, in South London. His 51-year-old girlfriend, Joanna Cierpka, an apparently out of work market research manager from Poland, has been charged with his murder.
In a statement to eFinancialCareers, Citi said: âWe are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Henrik's family and friends during this difficult time.â
Colleagues at Citi in London say they worked with Slotsaa, who was on a support team for loan capital markets and worked with bankers as well as people in his direct team. "He was a nice and gentle guy, so it's very shocking," says one.
Slotsaa, who is Danish, joined Citi in 2021 after nearly two decades at Danske Bank. He graduated from Copenhagen Business School in 2004.
Cierpka reportedly arrived in court wearing grey prison issue tracksuit trousers and a sweatshirt. When police arrived at the flat she shared with Slotsaa, they reportedly found Slotsaa stabbed to death in a "messy flat," where he had been dead for some time. Police visited the apartment Cierpka shared with Slotsaa following a call from Poland.
Slotsaa's former Citi colleagues are hoping to attend his funeral, when it occurs.
