Goldman Sachs has a new industrials banker, courtesy of BofA

2026 is shaping up to be a boom year for investment banking. And when it’s a boom year for banking, one type of banker is in demand above all others: managing directors (MDs), the people who bring in deals that feed said boom year.

Brian Innes joined Goldman Sachs in New York this week as an MD in its industrial investment banking group. He joined the firm from Bank of America, where he spent 17 years in total in its global industrials group. Innes was made an MD at BofA in its 2024 round of promotions

Interestingly, before joining BofA, Innes was an equity researcher at now-defunct Credit Suisse. He took a few years out of work to do an MBA before joining BofA as a banking associate. Doing an MBA to switch careers is a well-trodden path into investment banking.

Moving from BofA to Goldman is a pretty solid move in 2026. According to market intelligence provider LSEG, formerly known as Refinitiv, Goldman Sachs had an 8.2% share of investment banking revenue in industrials in the first quarter of 2026, while Bank of America only had a 5.2% market share.

Goldman Sachs and Bank of America declined to comment on this article. Brian Innes did not respond to a request for comment.
