BNP Paribas appears to have quietly hired one of London's top credit traders
As we reported earlier today, BNP Paribas has been cutting people in its London emerging markets credit trading team, some of them senior. However, it also appears to have made a very senior hire.

Multiple sources suggest that BNP has hired Sylvain Lebre. Lebre has a storied history in credit trading, having been the head of macro credit index and options trading at Barclays, the global head of credit trading at Citadel Securities, the head of CDS trading at Deutsche Bank, and - mostly recently - a portfolio manager at hedge fund Eisler Capital.
Headhunters claim Lebre is joining BNP in a senior role in London. BNP didn't immediately respond to a request to comment. Nor did Lebre.
Lebre left Eisler in April 2023 and appears to have taken time out of the market. Sources said he's very well respected and a "nice person" to work with. "This is a big hire for BNP" observed one senior headhunter.
BNP Paribas cut Trang Nguyen, the global head of emerging markets credit strategy, Bo Bazylevsky, an MD in emerging markets trading and its London- and New York-based heads of emerging-market credit sales, plus others.
Lebre isn't the only recent hire. The French bank also recruited Ahmed Halladja from Deutsche Bank earlier this summer.
