Ex-Deutsche Bank MD opens hedge fund advisory firm

If you're one of those losing your job in the endless bloodletting at Deutsche Bank, you might want to get in touch with an ex-colleague, Nick Lawson. He launched a new firm in London yesterday, and it's hiring now.

Whether Lawson will scoop up any of his former DB friends is open to question, though. "I will be recruiting ex-fund of fund analysts and people with hedge fund asset raising experience," he says, adding that hiring will be taking place imminently, "as we have business from the get-go."

Lawson's new venture is called Ocean Wall Ltd (OWL) and is a self-described provider of 'comprehensive advisory services to hedge funds and private companies around asset raising and investor relations.' It was launched yesterday, with the backing of four investors.

"I will look to assist on the more esoteric and niche aspects of asset raising," says Lawson. "I aim to use my relationships to not only match buyer and seller, but also to create the optimal outcome for both parties. Our intention is to work with a select few clients and only to bring what we consider to be exceptional deals to allocators."

Lawson spent 17 years at Deutsche Bank between 1998 and 2015, latterly as a managing director and head of macro, event strategies and synthetic distribution. After leaving Deutsche in 2015 he joined Arrowgrass Capital Partners as head of strategic capital solutions. He resigned from Arrowgrass in May and was on gardening leave over the summer.

Wall said he's already had approaches from potential employees. "I have a lot of interest in people coming to work with me.

"What I really want to try and do is to take my experience as a partner at Arrowgrass and a managing director at Deutsche Bank and to deliver really high touch hedge fund advisory," he adds. Prime brokerage staff at Deutsche who don't want to move to BNP might want to get in touch.
