Intern, meoSphere System Modeling (AI)

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

This is an opportunity to be part of the Modeling and Simulation team in an innovative satellite organization. As satellite constellations grow in scale and complexity, artificial intelligence plays an increasing role in analyzing, optimizing, and extracting insights from large-scale simulations, particularly in the context of 5G NTN architectures.

Based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg, you will work on integrating AI and machine-learning techniques into a constellation simulator focused on constellation analysis. You will collaborate with experts in telecommunications, simulation, and software engineering to develop data-driven models that enhance simulator capabilities and support projects such as meoSphere and IRIS2.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

• Collaborate with the team to design and integrate AI/ML components within a constellation simulator.
• Develop and train machine-learning models to analyze simulation outputs and predict constellation performance metrics (e.g., coverage, latency, congestion).
• Apply AI techniques to optimization, anomaly detection, or surrogate modeling for complex simulation workflows.
• Validate AI models against simulation results and real-world or standards-driven scenarios.
• Communicate findings, limitations, and insights clearly to technical stakeholders

COMPETENCIES

• Strong proficiency in Rust and/or Python
• Familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, or equivalent).
• Proficiency with DevOps tools (e.g. git)
• Strong command of spoken and written English.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field, or a related field.
• Strong interest in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven modeling applied to complex systems.
• Familiarity with Linux environments and development tooling.

In addition, it would be nice if you had:

• Knowledge of parallel or distributed computing concepts (e.g., multi-threading, MPI, GPU acceleration).
• Knowledge of graph theory, numerical methods, or related optimization algorithms.
• Familiarity with satellite systems or aerospace engineering concepts.
• Basic SatCom knowledge (satellite constellations, orbital mechanics, link budgets).
• Basic experience applying AI/ML to simulation, optimization, or system-level data.
• Additional language skills considered an asset.
