Our Market & Commodity Trading and Risk team is specialized on working in the commodity and energy trading industry on a broad range of commodity trading related topics such as strategy, market entry, business and operating models, asset optimization, hedging strategy, transfer prices, valuation, AI and tech transformation, trading IT architecture and implementation.

Practice Area

The Risk & Compliance Practice provides strategic, transformational and technical offerings in risk and compliance. We take a comprehensive view which enables us to help our clients grow their businesses while staying ahead of key risks, anticipating regulatory shifts, and instilling ethical practices. Our offerings include, but also extend beyond: Compliance and Crisis Management, Cyber and Digital Risk, Credit Risk Management, Balance Sheet Optimization, Market & Commodity Risk, ESG, Risk Org, Ops and Operational Risk, and Supply Chain Risk.

What You'll Do

• Structure and drive individual workstreams to develop tailored market and commodity trading and risk solutions, with a focus on energy trading environments (power, gas, oil)
• Develop trading strategy, market entry strategies, business and operating models, transfer concepts, risk governance systems.
• Drive AI and technology transformation strategies and implementation
• Analyze value and risk of commodity exposures and real options.
• Advise on market, credit, and liquidity risks and contribute to the design of trading frameworks, including exposure modeling, valuation, hedging strategies, limit systems, stress testing, and risk governance
• Support senior team members in project management, client communication, and delivery of high-impact results
• Build strong partnerships with BCG and client project teams, providing on-site expertise and guidance on commodity markets and trading risk transformation

What You'll Bring

• Experience in Market & Commodity Risk: Initial experience in commodity trading or risk management, ideally within energy trading, commodity-focused industries, or consulting
• Analytical Skills: Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure complex problems and derive actionable insights
• Consulting Experience: Experience supporting internal or external stakeholders on commodity risk, optimization and trading related topics in commodity-driven businesses
• Digital & Analytical Capabilities: Familiarity with advanced analytics, risk systems, and digital tools supporting trading and risk management
• Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively at management level and build trusted, long-term client relationships
• Fluent oral and written language skills: English (client-ready); German a plus
